My friend Steve Schalchlin is given to rather loud responses at times towards side B, and one could get the impression, as I initially did, that his strong feelings of, uh, disapproval applied indiscriminantly to all side B ideations. :) However, this is not the case, as Steve spent an entire afternoon pondering some distinctives between various strains of us side B'ers. :o Much love to you, Steve. And no, I don't think we will have to do the Anthony Hopkins binding-up thing... I think it's okay to let you out in public even for occasions other than singing. Subject: The SideB Continuum 

Hey, on my trip I began putting together a continuum for exgay ministries similar to the sexual continuum so that I could more easily understand the various belief scales. It's really rough, but I based the criteria on level of demonization, level of personal acceptance, politics and whether it's a "salvation" issue. Comments? 

 
1. HATES ALL GAYS, EXGAYS. 
Severe demonization of gays. Nazi-like language. 
Considers exgays to be spies for the gay agenda. 
"Should be put into pens and separated from society." 
Supports Religious Right. 
Believes sgb a salvation issue. 
 
2. STRONGLY DISLIKES GAYS 
Some demonization. Believes change is essential. 
"Get out of this house until you are fixed." 
Supports Religious Right. 
Disbelief in homosexuality (it's just a perversion). 
Believes sgb a salvation issue. 
 
3. STRONGLY DISAPPROVES OF SGB. 
Believes gays must change or be celibate. 
No SGB approval, but no hate. 
"You can stay home but no gay behavior." 
No support for gay equal rights. 
May consider sbg a salvation issue. 
 
4. SIMPLE DISAPPROVAL OF SGB. 
No fellowship in worship for gay couples. 
No demonization, no hate. 
SOME support for equal rights. 
Objects to PRR demonization. 
NOT a salvation issue. 
 
5. SUPPORTIVE DISAPPROVAL OF SGB. 
Believes sgb is a sin BUT... 
No worse than any other sin. 
Accepts practicing gays into fellowship. 
MOSTLY pro gay rights. 
AGAINST the PRR. 
NOT a salvation issue. 
 
6. (ALMOST) TOTALLY SUPPORTIVE. 
Believe "sin" issue to be personal. 
Supports change of sexuality if individual wants it. 
PRO gay rights. 
AGAINST PRR.
NOT a salvation issue.
